Scholarship News
I reported that Open enrollment for the Robert J. Hindley Memorial Scholarship  from Jan 1st through May 1st.

Training;
I reported that Butch Garrity will be doing another Junior Firefighters Academy course in the fall. No date or time were giving. Region 5 also has a regional training video library available to members for their next drill night. There is a list of DVD’s of what is available in the library. And we will arrange to get it to your department for drill night.
There are three Mass Fire Academy classes Scheduled
Pump and Hydraulics, April 22-23 in Egremont
Flashover Simulator, MAY 8, Pittsfield •Protective Breathing Search and Rescue, June 24-25, Adams
TAKING ACTION AGAINST CANCER IN THE FIRE SERVICE – May 13 – Adams FD. 9AM - OEMS Credit Hours: 3
The following classes have been requested but not scheduled yet.
Elevator Rescue , Rope Rescue, Hazmat-OLR ,Gas Burn Trailer, Real world Approach to ICS.
Call/Volunteer class is Returning to Western Mass in July. Most of the classes will be in Central Berkshire and the weekends in Springfield. Applications, including the physicals, need to be in by May 22.   

Dominica D’Aella also reported on the Health and Wellness and the Firefighter Down CPR Classes which are sponsored by MCVFA. The classes cost are $20 per-person and the classes run for 2hrs. Legislative News The 2017 - 2018 Legislative Session is underway! We have contacted those legislators who supported our bills from the last session and have asked them to re-file the bills that did not pass. These include:
Death Benefits for LODD spouses
Firefighter License Plate
Voluntary Tax Contribution to MFA
Real Estate Tax Exemption       

Membership Dues renewals going out April 15, 2017 For the 2017-2018 Membership  remember dues go to $20 on July 1st  Its going to cover $ 2.50 for the increase in Postage and printing for the Smoke Showing magazine. And $ 2.50 for the increase in the Insurance for Provident Insurance Company that will take effective in September 1, 2017.  AD&D of  $10,000. As special huge thanks to Region 5 Coordinator Frank Speth for all his hard work of  getting  more area departments to jump on MCVFA Band wagon.
